Insurance
Simply stated, commercial dental insurance is, at best, a mediocrity. Policy design encourages what we consider "patchwork" dentistry and payment schedules that are years out of date and getting worse. We have made no contracts with, or in any way become employees of, any third party. Our responsibility is to you. Their job is to keep your money. We will, of course, provide any necessary documentation and coding you may wish to submit.
As we believe, along with the NIH, NAS and numerous prominent researchers, that oral infections are major contributors to general medical problems, (heart disease, stroke, diabetes, etc…) we will also recommend that certain procedures be submitted to your medical insurance carrier. Some companies are beginning to approve coverage; more will likely follow.
After all the "gloom and doom" about commercial dental insurance, we will offer here a positive note. A much better type of program, which can still be set up within an employer's benefit package, is called a Direct Reimbursement plan. These have virtually no administrative or up front costs of any type. Employer contributions only occur when and if the plan is used. There are no arbitrary procedure exclusions or percentage of coverage variations. No monitoring is necessary; the policy user goes to any provider, has full discretion as to needed and/or wanted services, and any work is fully covered, to the parameters of the plan. There is no third party 'siphon.' All designated benefit dollars go directly to patient care. These plans generally result in greater satisfaction, more legitimate expenditures and lower costs than commercial plans. If you would like information about establishing such a plan, please ask us.
