    Microdentistry

Recently, a type of laser (Er:YAG) has been introduced to replace the drill in many "filling" procedures. We have been using "no drill" technology for nearly ten years. Microabrasion uses a stream of ultra fine particles, rather like an airbrush to remove decay. On teeth it is:

    • painless
    • noiseless
    • "novacaine-less"
    • creates much stronger bonding
    • causes much less damage to the healthy tooth than does drilling.
This instrument can "drill" a hole less than 1/2mm wide through glass with no heat or cracking.
Combined with more sophisticated diagnostics, we can now find and treat decay when it is much smaller. Several methods are beginning to allow reversal (healing) of early decay, making surgical treatment unnecessary.
